How to Read a Build Layer by Layer

Short answer: treat each height level as a floor plan. Finish the whole layer, then move up one block. Count positions from a fixed corner.

1. Choose a starting corner

Pick the front-left corner as your origin and never change it. Every position is counted from there.

2. Read one layer

Look at the top-down grid for the current height. Filled squares are blocks; empty squares stay air.

3. Place row by row

Go along one row, then come back along the next. Small groups of 4–6 blocks are easy to check.

4. Compare with the 3D view

After each layer, rotate the 3D model to confirm the walls, openings and corners match.

5. Move up

Only when the layer is complete, move to the next height. Mistakes stay small this way.

FAQ

Why not just copy the finished picture?

A finished picture hides the inside and the back. A layer view shows every block in that layer, including hidden ones.

Which direction is up in a layer view?

Pick one side as the front and keep it. In Cubeplan you can rotate the 3D model and the layer grid together.

What about blocks that hang over the edge, like roofs?

They are just another layer that is wider than the walls. Count the overhang from the wall below.
