Flipnook Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-21
Flipnook ("the app") is a free flashcard app provided by DDJ B1 ("we", "us"). You make decks of cards with a front and a back, study them by flipping and grading yourself, take quizzes, and listen to cards read aloud. It has no account system, no login, no subscription and no server operated by us.
Your decks and cards
Decks, cards, pictures you attach, and your study progress are stored locally on your device.
- The app itself does not upload your decks, cards, pictures or progress, and we never receive them.
- Pictures are chosen through Android's system photo picker; the app only receives the pictures you select and keeps a resized copy in its own storage.
- Read-aloud uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine. Which engine is used, and how it handles text, is controlled by your device settings.
- The advertising SDK described below may collect information as explained in that section. Your decks and cards are not passed to the advertising SDK.
Import, export and backup
- When you import a CSV or text file, the app reads only the file you choose.
- When you export a deck as CSV or save a backup file, the file is written to the location you choose. Where it goes from there (for example a cloud drive) is up to you.
- If you share a result card, the image goes to the app you choose through Android's share sheet.
- Android's standard app backup may include app data in your own Google account backup if you have device backup enabled; that backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.
Permissions
- Notifications — review reminders in the morning and evening. You can decline; the app keeps working.
- Run at startup — to restore reminders after the phone restarts.
- Vibration — for reminders, if you turn it on.
- Internet / network state / advertising ID — used by the advertising SDK described below.
Flipnook does not request your device location, camera, microphone, contacts, SMS or calendar access.
Advertising and information collected automatically
The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob inside the app only (never in notifications or in the widget). Ads are limited to content rated for general audiences. To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the AdMob SDK may collect and share with Google information such as your device's advertising identifier and other device identifiers, approximate location derived from your IP address, app interactions (for example ad views and taps), crash logs and diagnostics. This data is shared with Google as a third party for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention purposes. For more information see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice from the app's Settings screen ("Ad privacy settings") and reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Your decks and progress exist only on your device, in backup files you save, and in device backups you control; uninstalling the app removes the app's own copies. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR, CCPA), you may have rights regarding data processed by the advertising SDK; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
