Hushten Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-29
Hushten ("the app") is a free nightly inventory journal provided by DDJ B1 ("we", "us"). It lets you answer a short set of yes-or-no reflection questions at night, write notes, gratitude lines and a plan for tomorrow, and record quick "spot checks" during the day. It has no account system, no login, no subscription and no server operated by us. Hushten is not affiliated with or endorsed by Alcoholics Anonymous or any 12-step fellowship, and it is not a medical or treatment service.
Your data
Your nightly answers and notes, gratitude lines, plans, spot checks, question settings and reminder time are stored locally on your device. An optional 4-digit PIN is stored only as a salted one-way hash on your device.
- The app itself does not upload this data, and we never receive it.
- The advertising SDK described below may collect information as explained in that section. Your journal entries, notes, answers and PIN are not passed to the advertising SDK.
- If you use "Send to my sponsor", the text of that entry goes only to the app you choose through Android's share sheet (for example a messaging app). If you use "Share with a friend", only a short text about the app is shared the same way.
- If you use "Export backup", a backup file is saved to a location you choose on your device or storage provider. "Import backup" reads a file you select.
- Android's standard app backup may include app data in your own Google account backup if you have device backup enabled; that backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.
Permissions
- Notifications — for an optional reminder at your chosen review time and a morning reminder of your plan. You can decline or turn them off; everything else keeps working.
- Run at startup — to restore reminders after the phone restarts or the time zone changes.
- Vibration — for optional reminder alerts.
- Internet / network state / advertising ID — used by the advertising SDK described below. Some permissions declared by Google libraries are not used by the app to read personal information.
Hushten does not request microphone, location, contacts, camera, phone call access, SMS, calendar or photo library permissions, or permission to draw over other apps.
Advertising and information collected automatically
The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob inside the app only (never in notifications or in the widget, and never on the screens where you write your review or a spot check). Ads are limited to content rated for general audiences. To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the AdMob SDK may collect and share with Google information such as your device's advertising identifier and other device identifiers, approximate location derived from your IP address, app interactions (for example ad views and taps), crash logs and diagnostics. This data is shared with Google as a third party for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention purposes. For more information see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice from the app's Settings screen ("Ad privacy settings") and reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Your app data exists only on your device and in backups you control; uninstalling the app removes the app's own copies. You can edit or delete any night or spot check inside the app, and export your data at any time. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR, CCPA), you may have rights regarding data processed by the advertising SDK; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings.
If you are in crisis
Hushten is a journaling tool and cannot respond to emergencies. If you are in danger or crisis, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
