Moonvane Privacy Policy

Moonvane ("the app") is a free moon phase app provided by DDJ B1 ("we", "us"). It shows the current moon phase, illumination and moon age, lets you drag through time, lists moonrise and moonset times for a city you choose, full moons, supermoons and eclipses, keeps an optional moon diary and offers a home screen widget. It has no account system, no login, no subscription and no server operated by us. All moon calculations run on your device and work offline.

Your data

Your chosen city, moon diary entries (checks and notes), event reminders and settings are stored locally on your device.

• The app itself does not upload this data, and we never receive it.
• The city list is built into the app. Choosing a city does not use your device location, and the app does not request location permission.
• The advertising SDK described below may collect information as explained in that section. Your diary entries and chosen city are not passed to the advertising SDK.
• If you share a moon card, a diary image or diary text, it goes only to the app you choose through Android's share sheet.
• Android's standard app backup may include app data in your own Google account backup if you have device backup enabled; that backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.

Permissions

• Notifications — for the optional morning moon summary and the moon events you choose to be reminded about. You can decline or turn them off; everything else keeps working.
• Run at startup — to restore the morning reminder after the phone restarts or the time zone changes.
• Vibration — for reminder alerts.
• Internet / network state / advertising ID — used by the advertising SDK described below.

Moonvane does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, phone/call access, SMS, calendar, photo library permissions, or permission to draw over other apps.

Advertising and information collected automatically

The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob inside the app only (never in notifications or in the widget). Ads are limited to content rated for general audiences. To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the AdMob SDK may collect and share with Google information such as your device's advertising identifier and other device identifiers, approximate location derived from your IP address, app interactions (for example ad views and taps), crash logs and diagnostics. This data is shared with Google as a third party for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention purposes. For more information see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice from the app's Settings screen ("Ad privacy settings") and reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings.

Data sources

Moon positions follow the methods in Jean Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms. City names and coordinates come from GeoNames (geonames.org), licensed under CC BY 4.0. These are bundled in the app; no data is downloaded from them while you use it.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Your app data exists only on your device and in backups you control; clearing a diary entry or uninstalling the app removes the app's own copies. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR, CCPA), you may have rights regarding data processed by the advertising SDK; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
