Wandrift Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-30
Wandrift ("the app") is a free random-walk explorer provided by DDJ B1 ("we", "us"). It picks a random spot inside a circle around you, points you there with a compass, and lets you keep a journal of what you found. It has no account system, no login, no subscription and no server operated by us. Spots are calculated on your device and the app works without a connection (ads aside).
Your data
Your journal (date, spot coordinates, distance, the tags you choose, your note, rating and an optional photo), the current spot and your settings are stored locally on your device.
- The app itself does not upload this data, and we never receive it.
- The advertising SDK described below may collect information as explained in that section. Your journal and spot coordinates are not passed to the advertising SDK.
- If you tap "Maps" or "Street View", the coordinates of the chosen spot are handed to the map app or browser you open (for example Google Maps), which handles them under its own privacy policy.
- If you use "Share" or "Share with a friend", only a short text (distance, the tags you chose and a link to the app — never coordinates) goes to the app you choose through Android's share sheet.
- If you add a photo to a journal entry, the app keeps a resized copy inside its own private storage. It does not read your photo library beyond the single picture you pick with Android's photo picker.
- Android's standard app backup may include app data in your own Google account backup if you have device backup enabled; that backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.
Permissions
- Location (precise and approximate) — used only while the app is open, to pick a spot around you and to show the remaining distance and direction on the compass screen. The app itself does not send your location off your device and does not track you in the background. The advertising SDK described below may access location while the app is open, as explained in that section. You can decline; your journal still works and you can turn location on later.
- Notifications — for an optional daily spot idea and an evening walk nudge. You can decline or turn them off; everything else keeps working.
- Run at startup — to restore reminders after the phone restarts or the time zone changes.
- Vibration — for small haptic feedback and reminder alerts.
- Internet / network state / advertising ID — used by the advertising SDK described below. Some permissions declared by Google libraries are not used by the app to read personal information.
Wandrift does not request background location, contacts, camera, microphone, phone call access, SMS, calendar or full photo library permissions, or permission to draw over other apps.
Advertising and information collected automatically
The app displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob inside the app only (never in notifications or in the widget, and never on the journal editing screen). Ads are limited to content rated for general audiences. To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the AdMob SDK may collect and share with Google information such as your device's advertising identifier and other device identifiers, location information — approximate location (including location derived from your IP address) and, because the app holds location permission, precise location when you have granted it — app interactions (for example ad views and taps), crash logs and diagnostics. This data is shared with Google as a third party for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention purposes. For more information see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and other regions where required, the app presents a consent form via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalized advertising data is used; if you decline, non-personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice from the app's Settings screen ("Ad privacy settings") and reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings.
Safety
Random spots can land on water, roads or private property. Wandrift cannot know what is at a spot. Do not trespass, follow local laws, prefer daylight and public places, and explore with a friend.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Your app data exists only on your device and in backups you control; uninstalling the app removes the app's own copies. You can edit or delete any journal entry inside the app at any time. Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR, CCPA), you may have rights regarding data processed by the advertising SDK; you can exercise ad-related choices through the consent form and your device's ad settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
