How to back up calendar events and move them to a new phone

Short answer: export your events to an .ics file, save it somewhere you control (Drive, an email to yourself, a USB cable), and import that file on the new phone. It works between most calendar apps, with no account or sync required.

1. Why events get lost

Offline calendars keep events only on the phone. Changing phones, resetting, or reinstalling the app wipes them unless you made a backup. Some apps also put backup behind a paid plan, which people only discover after losing years of events.

2. Export

Look for "Export", "Backup" or "Save as .ics" in the app's settings. Pick a folder you can find again, such as Downloads or Google Drive.

3. Move the file

Upload it to your cloud drive, email it to yourself, or copy it over a cable.

4. Import on the new phone

Install your calendar app, open its import option and select the file. Check a few months, including a repeating event, to confirm everything arrived.

Doing it with Calendot

Settings → Backup → "Export to .ics file" saves every event with its repeat rule, reminder, color, place and notes. On the new phone, "Import .ics file" adds them back. Backup is part of the app, not a paid extra, and there is no account to sign in to.

FAQ

What is an .ics file?

It is the standard iCalendar format. Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar and most Android calendar apps can import it.

Will reminders and repeats come along?

Usually yes. Repeat rules and reminders are part of the format, though some apps import only the basic fields.

How often should I back up?

Before changing phones, factory resets or big app updates, and once a month if your calendar matters to you.
