Why your calendar cuts off event titles in month view
Short answer: month view squeezes seven days into one row, and most calendar apps draw each event as a single line inside a narrow cell, so anything longer than about eight characters becomes "Columbu…" or "Dentist a…". You can shorten titles, switch to week or list view, or use a calendar that wraps titles inside the day.
1. Why it happens
On a typical phone each day cell is only about 50 dp wide. A one-line event chip fits 6 to 9 Latin letters, or 3 to 4 Korean or Japanese characters. When a day has several events the app also shrinks the font, which makes truncation worse.
2. Quick fixes in any calendar app
- Put the key word first: "Dentist 7pm" instead of "Appointment at the dentist".
- Use week or agenda view for days you need to read in full.
- Use colors for categories so the title can be shorter.
3. A calendar that wraps titles
The real fix is a month view that lets a title use two or three lines when the day has room. Days with one or two events can show full names; only crowded days need to collapse to one line with a "+2" counter.
Doing it with Calendot
Calendot wraps titles up to three lines inside each day cell, breaks long words with a hyphen, and keeps Korean and Japanese words together instead of splitting syllables. All-day events and holidays stay at the top of the cell, and the selected day's full list is right below the month.
FAQ
Why does my calendar show only the first few letters of an event?
Month view gives each day a narrow cell and most apps draw every event as a single line, so longer titles are cut with an ellipsis.
Does switching to week view help?
Usually yes. Week and agenda views have more room per event, so titles are shown in full.
Can I make the text bigger without losing titles?
A bigger system font makes truncation worse in one-line layouts. A calendar that wraps titles keeps them readable at larger sizes.
