How to repeat an event on the last day of the month
Short answer: don't repeat it "monthly on the 31st". Many calendars skip months that don't have that date, so the reminder quietly disappears in February, April, June, September and November. Use a "last day of the month" rule instead, or a calendar that moves the 31st to the last day of shorter months.
1. Why the 31st disappears
The iCalendar standard that most calendars share says a monthly rule on day 31 produces no event in months with fewer days. That is correct by the spec, but it is rarely what people want for rent, card payments or payday.
2. Options that work
- Last day of the month: lands on the 28th, 29th, 30th or 31st automatically.
- Day 1 of next month: a workaround if your app has no last-day rule.
- A fixed weekday: "second Tuesday" or "last Friday" for meetings.
3. Check it worked
Open the year view or scroll to February. If the event is there on the 28th, your rule is right.
Doing it with Calendot
In the event editor choose Repeat → "Every month on the last day". Calendot also treats a monthly event on the 29th, 30th or 31st as "that day or the last day of the month", so it never vanishes. Other options include every weekday, every two weeks and the nth weekday of the month.
FAQ
Why did my monthly event skip February?
Many calendars follow the iCalendar rule that skips months without that date, so an event on the 31st only appears in 7 months of the year.
What should I pick for rent or payday?
Use a “last day of the month” rule. It lands on the 28th, 29th, 30th or 31st automatically.
Can I repeat on the second Tuesday instead?
Yes, that is a “monthly on the nth weekday” rule. Calendot creates it from the start date.
