How to Organize Screenshots Into Folders on Android

Short answer: you can move screenshots with the Files app, but on newer Android many apps cannot move them for you. Sorting into in-app folders with tags is more reliable and keeps the original file untouched.

Option 1: Files app

Open Files › Pictures › Screenshots, select images, tap Move and pick or create a folder. This works for a few files but gets slow for hundreds, and some gallery apps then show the folder in a different place.

Why apps fail to move them

Since Android 10, apps have limited access to shared storage. Moving files between folders often needs extra permission, which is why users see messages like "can't move to folders due to Android restrictions."

Option 2: in-app folders and tags

Instead of moving files, give each kept screenshot a folder such as Receipts, Recipes or Travel, plus tags and a note. Nothing on disk changes, so it never fails, and you can still search by folder or tag.

Doing it with Capsweep

While you sweep, tap a folder chip to keep a screenshot straight into that folder, add tags or a note, and find it later in the archive with tag filters and a grid or slide view.

FAQ

Why can't my app move screenshots to another folder?

Newer Android versions restrict which folders an app can write to, so moving files can fail. Several cleaner apps say so in their own help.

Do in-app folders move the original file?

No. The screenshot stays where it is; the app just remembers which folder, tags and note you gave it.

Can I find a saved screenshot later?

Yes. Use folders and tags as filters, or add a short note so you remember why you kept it.
