How to turn off lock screen vocabulary words on Android

Short answer: first look for a lock screen switch in the app's own settings. If there isn't one, turn off the app's "display over other apps" permission and its notifications in Android Settings. If the screen still appears, the app is replacing your lock screen, and the only sure fix is to uninstall it and switch to an app that shows words as a notification you can turn off.

1. Check the app's settings

Look for "Lock screen", "Lock screen interval" or similar. Some apps let you set it to off; others lock that option behind a premium plan.

2. Turn off "Display over other apps"

Go to Settings → Apps → the app → Display over other apps (sometimes under Special app access) and turn it off. Without it, most apps can no longer draw over your lock screen.

3. Turn off its notifications

Settings → Apps → the app → Notifications. This stops notification cards and full-screen alerts.

4. Stop it from restarting

Use Force stop, and in Battery set the app to Restricted so it can't keep running in the background.

5. Keep learning without the takeover

Seeing a word every time you unlock really does help memory. The problem is being forced. Look for an app that shows words as a normal notification card or widget, lets you choose how many per day, and lets you switch it off for free.

Doing it with Glimword

Glimword never covers your lock screen. A word card arrives as a notification 1 to 5 times a day, you choose when the first one shows, and the lock screen card is a free on/off switch in Settings. It only asks for one permission: notifications.

FAQ

Why can't I turn off the lock screen in my vocabulary app?

Some apps draw their own full screen over the system lock screen and keep the off switch behind a paid plan. Android can't simply hide that screen the way it hides a notification.

Will uninstalling remove the lock screen?

Yes. Uninstalling removes the app's lock screen immediately, but you also lose your saved words, so try the steps above first.

Is a lock screen notification the same as a lock screen app?

No. A notification card sits on the normal lock screen and can be switched off per app in Android settings. A lock screen app replaces or covers the whole screen.
