Tasbih after salah: 33 SubhanAllah, 33 Alhamdulillah, 34 Allahu Akbar
Short answer: after the obligatory prayer, say SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times and Allahu Akbar 34 times, for 100 in total. Some complete the 100 with 33 Allahu Akbar and La ilaha illallah once. Count on your fingers, beads or a counter — what matters is that your heart stays with the words.
1. The three phrases
SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (All praise is for Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). Say each one calmly and clearly.
2. Keep the order, one phrase at a time
Finish all 33 of the first phrase before moving to the next. Mixing them is the easiest way to lose count.
3. Pick one way to count and stick to it
Finger joints, a misbaha or a digital tasbih all work. Switching methods mid-way is where most counts go wrong.
4. Let your hand count, not your eyes
If you use a phone, choose a counter you can tap anywhere and that vibrates on each count, so you can lower your gaze instead of watching a number.
5. Know when a set is done
A long vibration at 33 tells you to move on without looking. At the end of 34 Allahu Akbar you have completed 100.
Doing it with Misbaly
Misbaly has an after-prayer set built in: SubhanAllah 33, Alhamdulillah 33, Allahu Akbar 34. Tap anywhere, feel a tick on every count and two long pulses at each target, and the next phrase starts by itself. Nothing pops up over the counter while you count.
FAQ
Is it 33 or 34 Allahu Akbar?
Both are widely practised. One common form is 33 SubhanAllah, 33 Alhamdulillah and 34 Allahu Akbar, making 100. Another is 33 of each followed by La ilaha illallah once to complete 100. Follow what you learned from your teacher or local scholars.
Can I count on my fingers instead of beads?
Yes. Many people count dhikr on their fingers. A tasbih or a counter app simply helps when you want to reach an exact number without keeping it in your head.
What if I lose count halfway?
Start that phrase again from the last number you are sure of. A counter that vibrates on every tap and pulses at 33 makes this much less likely.
