Slide the moon or the time ruler to any hour of any day; phase, % lit and moon age update live. Tap "Back to now" to return.

Moonrise with the date on it

"Moonrise 5:22 PM · Mon, Oct 26" — every time shows its date, plus an arc showing where the moon is right now.

No location permission

The city is guessed from your time zone, or picked from 15,000+ built-in cities. Calculations run on your phone.

FAQ

Why does a moon app need my location?
It doesn't have to. Moonrise depends on where you are, but a city is enough. Moonvane uses the city you pick (or one guessed from your time zone) and never requests location permission.
The moonrise time says 9 PM — which day is that?
Moonvane prints the date next to every rise and set time, because the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day and often sets the next morning.
How accurate is the moon age?
Positions follow Jean Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms. Phase times are within about a minute and moon age is shown to one decimal.
When is the next full moon or eclipse?
The Events tab lists the next twelve months: full and new moons, quarters, supermoons, micromoons, blue moons and lunar and solar eclipses, in your city's time.
Can I see the moon on my birthday?
Yes. In the calendar tap "Go to a date", pick any day, and share it as a moon card.
Will it spam me with notifications?
No. There is at most one morning line, and event alerts only for the events you ring.
Does it work in the southern hemisphere?
Yes. The moon view flips automatically for cities south of the equator, or you can set it yourself.
