How to add up receipts and share the total as text or CSV

Short answer: Put each receipt on its own line with a short memo, subtract refunds and coupons as negative lines, print a total, then share the whole tape. A chat gets readable receipt-style text; a spreadsheet gets a CSV with one row per line.

1. Start a new tape and name it

One tape per job keeps things clean: "Groceries Oct 22", "Lisbon trip", "Team dinner". The name and date go at the top of everything you share.

2. One receipt, one line, one memo

Type the amount, press +, and tag the line with what it was. Memos turn a column of numbers into something you and others can check later.

3. Subtract refunds and coupons

Enter returns, coupons and discounts with −. In Sumroll they print in red, so they stand out on the tape.

4. Subtotal by group, then total

If you are grouping expenses (food, transport, hotel), press ◇ after each group for a subtotal, and ✱ or = at the end for the total.

Example of a shared tape:

Sumroll — Groceries (Oct 22)
  12.50 + milk & bread
   8.20 + eggs
◇ 20.70
   3.00 − coupon
✱ 17.70

5. Share it

6. Keep the tape

The tape stays in your saved tapes with its date and total. If someone asks about an amount next month, search the memo and reopen it.

FAQ

Can I send the breakdown, not just the total?

Yes. Sharing the tape as text sends every line with its memo, subtotals and the total, so the reader can check each amount.

How do I get receipts into Excel?

Share the tape as a CSV file and open it in Excel or Google Sheets. Each line becomes a row with its amount and memo.

How do I split the total between people?

After the total, divide it by the number of people on the same tape, or keep a separate tape per person with their name in the memos.
