Random spot landed in water or private property? What to do

Short answer: reroll. A truly random point does not know what is on the ground, so some spots will always fall on water, roads or private land. Check the spot first, and if you can't reach it legally and safely, roll again.

Why this happens

A random location generator picks coordinates, not places. If a third of your circle is a lake, about a third of the spots will be in the lake. Near highways, rail yards and gated neighborhoods the same thing happens.

Check before you walk

Open the spot in Street View or satellite view. Look for fences, gates, water and busy roads. If the nearest public point is right next to it, going there is enough.

Make rerolling free

Some apps charge points to skip water or to reroll, which makes people go anyway or give up. If rerolls are unlimited, you simply skip bad spots and keep the fun.

Respect the rules

Never climb fences or enter yards, construction sites or rail tracks. If a place looks closed, it is. Log "turned back" and roll again.

FAQ

Can a random location app avoid water automatically?

Only with detailed map data. A simple, offline approach is to preview the spot and reroll when it is in water.

Is it legal to visit a random spot?

Visiting public places is fine. Entering private property without permission is not. When in doubt, stay on public streets and paths.

What if I'm halfway there and it's blocked?

Stop, log it as turned back, and roll a new spot from where you are.
